ChiloChill began as a dream of a different way of life. We wanted to feel more connected to our bodies, to nature and to the present moment. At its heart was the wish to watch a family grow: our own, with Blanca and our daughters, who were born after the project began and are now its heart, and the extended family of colleagues, friends and neighbours who have joined us along the way.
Every corner of this place gives that philosophy a physical form.
Over time, this dream became a way to contribute to the community around us. We believe in sharing what we build. Our daily aim is to support dignified, well-paid work, nurture a healthy working environment and create experiences that help guests remember what matters to them. We love making room for families to be together, with space to be themselves: respecting each person's independence while enjoying time with one another. A place that invites us to use all our senses, including those we seem to discover when we step onto this sand, and enjoy life's simple pleasures.
Looking back, we feel proud to have led this place for almost a decade in La Ventana. The idea first took shape during the days of Wind and Music Fest in Los Mochis, grew through Beach Club Maviri, and eventually became ChiloChill here in Baja. We remember fondly when it was just a rented house. Blanca and I welcomed every guest ourselves, cooked, taught kite lessons and led bike, paddleboard and snorkelling trips. That hands-on work laid the foundations for what we are today.
This achievement belongs to everyone who helped build it: every colleague, partner, family member and friend who gave their effort, talent and care. The community and our guests have shown us so much love, through smiles and words of thanks. Their messages have stayed with us, and capture a feeling we cherish: “they arrive as one version of themselves and leave as another”.
The road has had its difficult stretches. We have faced envy, slander, hacking, theft and the uncertainty of a global pandemic. Each challenge also showed us the strength of working together and supporting one another. Those experiences helped us mature, strengthen how we run the place and understand that resilience lives in our people, rather than in the walls of a hotel.
Today, more than ever, we thank God and life for bringing the right people into our path, and for the chance to keep building ChiloChill as an expression of the way we want to live.
Our deepest thanks. We made it happen! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
With gratitude,
Alfred, Blanca, Pia, Lua and the ChiloChill team
